Bombay

This is our second trip to India and we will head to beautiful Kashmir and plan to take the spectacular drive from Srinagar to Leh over the Himalayas into Ladakh to get an introduction to buddhist culture.

We land in Bombay – I stick to the traditional names – as there are no direct flights from Zürich to Delhi and spend one day to see some of the highlights of this highly british influenced city. Setting off from the Gateway to India in front of the famous Taj Mahal Palace hotel we cross the harbour to visit the Elephanta caves – dedicated to lord Shiva – dating back to the 7th century. We view the wide sweep of the ocean front, a Jain temple and of course the huge and bustling victorina style railway station.
