Ho Chi Minh City – so heisst Saigon ja heute offiziell. Damit sollte es doch eine streng kommunistische, sozialistische und linientreue Stadt sein – weit gefehlt: wir begegnen einer lebendigen und pulsierenden weltoffenen City von 7 Millionen Einwohnern. Saigon ist heute – entgegen den ursprünglichen Absichten der Machthaber – das Businesscenter von Vietnam.
Die Polizei ist in Vietnam nur selten zu sehen, Militär überhaupt nicht. Das Einzige was wir nicht gefunden haben, sind Kiosks. Weder nationale noch internationale Presse ist käuflich zu erhalten. Irgendwo macht sich das totalitäre Regime doch bemerkbar.
Ho Chi Minh City – this is the official name for Saigon. If you expect to come to a communist, socialist an rule abiding town, you are caught on the wrong foot. We are in a bustling city of 7 million People. Today – against the initial intentions of the roulers from the North – this is the business center of Vietnam.
In the whole of Vietnam we saw very few police, and no military forces at all. The only thing missing are newstands. Neither local nor international magazines are for sale. So the totalitarian regime is still there ……
