Rajasthan
We lost count on how many times we travelled in Rajasthan but there are always new places to visit. I don’t think we will manage to see all the sights of this state that is so incredibly rich in cultural sights.
On this trip we stop over at Kuchaman Fort. It is one of the truly big and impressive fortresses we have visited. At the moment it is restored and developed into a heritage hotel site by good friends of ours.
In the former living quarters there is an incredibly beautiful golden room and …..
….. a stunning sheesh mahal – a mirror room.
Moving on to Bikaner we stroll through the old town and admire the historic Havelis. These buldings with magnificent sandstone facades were erected by rich merchants and meant to impress their costumers and competitors. Today most of them are sadly in a rather derelict state an look like collapsing anytime.
Completed in 1594 Junagarh Fort is one of the most impressive forts in Rajasthan. It’s many courtyards let you visit many beautifully decorated and restored rooms. We leave with a rather vivid impression of the life of the royal families of Bikaner.
