Alchi 2020
From Leh we travel down the valley to visit the Alchi Choskhor Tempel. This impressive historic monastic complex is artistically the most important one in Ladakh. It was built in the 11th century and is the oldest of a group of three temples built around that time.
The chambers of the compex are decorated with artistic and spiritual paintings and contain huge statues of the Buddha. These are among the oldest surviving and quite well preserved paintings in Ladakh. Inside phography is strictly prohibited. Luckily on our first visit in 1988 this rule was not yet enforced an I suggest you take a look at the pics I was able to take then. Pic on right is from 1988.
