Matho 2020

Matho lies across the Indus Valley from Thiksey. As it is only connected by a secondary road few tourist venture there. It is known for its annual Oracle Matho Nagrang Festival and we were lucky to be there to attend. During this festival, two oracles, known as „Rongtsan“, are said to inhabit for a few hours the body of two monks. The purpose of these oracles is to attempt to predict the fortunes of the local village communities for the coming year (Wikipedia).

No foto while the oracles are out and about running through and around the premisses. The spectacle attracts a great crowd and at the end the access road is completly blocked with parked and abandoned vehicles. Having arrived early we have to wait nearly one hour for the traffic jam to untangle.
