Leh Nubra Leh
There is one more day before we head back to Switzerland and we are still not completly worn out. We set out for another day of crossing high passes. A rarely travelled and rather narrow road takes us over Wari La at 5’312m into the Nubra Valley.
Entertainment along the way is provided by yaks, marmotts and road construction sites.
The Shyok river carves this valley through the mountains and leaves a wide alluvial bottom where livestock finds some patches of grass to graze and even some farming is possible. Altitude around 3’000m.
To get back to Leh we again have to cross a high pass. Our GPS and Google set it at 5’360m but some sources claim it to be 5’602m. However it is one of the highest motorable roads in the Himalayas. The view down into the Indus valley and to Leh is stunning and prepares us for the many sharp curves and horseshoe turns awaiting us.
Back in town we have fun at a farewell lunch with our friends whom we have to promise to come back soon. Bdw. our next trip is already in the making ……
